I’m Guilty Of Doing This When Painting!

When I started out drawing I used to go into my room or find a quiet place in my house full of seven people, so I could concentrate on drawing and putting my imagination to use. Growing up with four siblings in a house isn’t easy to find a quiet space.

I think all us inspiring young artists started off the same way. We needed that peace and quiet to create our Masterpieces, Masterpieces in our own mind. Understand now, I grew up in an Era that was and still is the best Era of all, in my opinion, the 1980’s! An Era that didn’t and couldn’t keep you indoors much at all! For me, it was indeed an Era of enjoying the peace and quiet inside all the while my siblings would be outside until the street lights came on! Well, it did the same to me too when I wasn’t practicing my artwork.

I remember going to the mall in New Jersey with my Mom, she LOVED the mall (Quakerbridge Mall) just to get out of the house and the neighborhood. Her little piece of enjoyment. She was and still is one of my biggest supporters in my artwork. Might I mention, she is also my biggest critic! Tough and straight to the point! I love that she always has been because I believe her constructive criticism is what kept me getting better at what I do. Anyways, back to the mall. She would take me to the Artists displaying their artwork and even drawing/painting their work right there in public.

I would watch the big smile on her face as she would say to me, “That’s going to be you some day.” “Right here in the mall doing your drawings for people.” She’d make me smile and feel important. I would watch this one artist draw in pastels. He was a portrait artist. I remember him wearing his magnified eye piece while drawing in one hand and holding a photograph in the other hand.

As I would watch him draw from this photograph I was amazed. Amazed at how he could draw people from a photograph. I would also gaze at the crowd around him and think to myself, How can he draw with people staring at him and all this loud noise in the mall? It didn’t even seem to phase him at all. I would actually tell myself there is no way I could do this with people watching and loud noise.

For many years, I did just what I said I could never do, and that’s, not drawing in front of people or with any noise around me whatsoever. I needed that quietness and the only eyes I wanted around, was my own eyes. Then one day, that suddenly all changed for me.

I can not remember as to why or what made that change in me or if it was just something that just happened in me. Today, I must have my Bluetooth speaker next to me playing all my favorite tunes while I’m painting. In fact, that’s the first priority I set up in my studio, my speaker and tunes.

Whatever it Takes song painting

Listening to music while painting has inspired me to do a couple song paintings. Elton John’s Sacrifice song and the song Whatever it takes by Imagine Dragons has inspired me to paint their song.

Halloween Horror Fest Paintings 2019

Now when it comes to painting a Scene or Character from a favorite movie of mine, I have to play that certain movie for continuing inspiration. It’s more like caffeinated coffee for my brain. I want to be there in that scene I’m painting. I’ve painted many movie Characters, especially Horror Icons. I just simply love horror!! Many of my horror artwork comes from my annual series Halloween Horror Fest a painting series dedicated to October and Halloween!

I think as of now, my favorite Movie painting is my Trick R Treat Sam painting. I also made this painting into a October Welcomes You! print which both are available on my website to purchase. I’m currently in the process of making a Music Playing Musical Canvas painting of the movie Titanic. Did I say Musical Playing canvas? YES I DID!! The canvas will actually play the tune from the movie My Heart Will Go On. I hope you all follow me on my Social Media to keep updated on the painting!!

Be sure to check daily on my website for new and exciting paintings and promotions!!
