It’s Art O’clock, where paintings double as timekeepers.

I thought I would share this particular set of creations I have done throughout the years, as they truly reflect my artistic journey and passion. Among them are my many clock paintings, with one that I self-proclaim as my masterpiece clock that embodies the essence of my artistic vision. Each piece not only serves as a functional timepiece but also represents a moment captured in time, blending creativity with practicality. Take a look at the many clocks you see in the pic, each intricately designed and meticulously crafted, and we’ll dive right into each one telling its own story as only time can tell, revealing the emotions and inspirations that sparked their creation. Through these clocks, I invite you to explore the unique narratives that unfold with every tick of the hand, reminding us of the fleeting yet beautiful nature of time.

Memorial Day/Veterans Day

I do not have a military background, but my late father was a veteran of the Army, a brave man who dedicated his life to serving and protecting our great nation. A salute to every man and every woman that has served our country, both past and present, for their immense sacrifices and unwavering commitment. I created this clock in memory of all those who have served and lost their lives in the call of duty, as well as to honor our veterans at home who have passed on or become disabled due to their sacrifices. Their courage inspires us all, and each tick of this clock serves as a reminder of their bravery and the deep gratitude we owe them. I will not forget; their stories and their legacies will live on in our hearts and minds, reminding us of the price of freedom and the honor of service.

Pooh and Honey

A time piece of nostalgia for me in creating this clock. I loved watching those special nights when Winnie the Pooh and friends would come visit me and my siblings through that black and white television screen on the tube. Their whimsical adventures and heartwarming stories filled our living room with laughter and excitement, making us forget about the outside world. Such memories this guy gave me especially during the holidays like Halloween and Christmas specials, when the air was thick with anticipation and joy, and we would gather around, snacks in hand, watching as the characters brought the magic of the seasons to life. You could feel the warmth of those moments wrapping around us like a cozy blanket, instilling a sense of wonder and happiness that I cherish to this day.

Now this guy could tell horror stories!

If you grew up in the era of horror movies, this was the time to have HBO! The Crypt Keeper of Tales from the Crypt was the show to be watching, captivating audiences with his trademark puns and eerie introductions. Every major movie star seemed to have been wanting to be part of this guy’s creepy stories, bringing their talents to the screen in unforgettable roles that left viewers both thrilled and chilled. The anthology format allowed for a diverse range of tales, each one more twisted than the last, ensuring that there was always something to keep us on the edge of our seats. In honor of crypt, I created this clock of him with his own special mini easel, adorned not only with his iconic image but also featuring some of my favorite Tales from the Crypt episodes, serving as a nostalgic reminder of those late-night viewing sessions that filled our imaginations with spine-tingling adventures and unforgettable scares.

He’s no Pumpkin

He’s Pumpkin Head! One of the many horror movies I favor, and a true classic in the genre. I love Lance Henriksen as an actor; his performances are always captivating, bringing depth and gravitas to every role, and this film is one of my favorites he did. The plot intricately weaves themes of vengeance and the supernatural, creating an atmosphere that’s both chilling and thought-provoking. If you haven’t watched this gem of a horror movie, I highly recommend you watch it not just to witness Henriksen’s compelling performance, but also to experience the haunting visuals and the eerie soundtrack that elevate the tension throughout the film. The notion that if one does bad by you, you can extract your revenge by calling upon Pumpkin Head adds a layer of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, making it a memorable viewing experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

Let’s recycle that painting palette

This is my acrylic painting palette, a cherished companion that has retired from crafting countless unforgettable masterpieces. She was my trusty buddy and my invaluable painting assistant. The hours we spent together, lost in the vibrant world of colors and creativity, are etched in my memory—hundreds of hours dedicated to the art that brought me immense joy and fulfillment. Each stroke of paint, each splash of color, and every canvas we transformed was a testament to the collaboration we shared.

This palette is not just a tool; she is the silent architect behind all those captivating clock paintings you see showcased above. Each clock holds within it the essence of our artistic journey, a journey filled with inspiration and innovation. As I decided it was time for her to embrace retirement, I made sure to honor her contributions in a meaningful way.

I created a unique clock that embodies her creative spirit and highlights the pivotal role she played in my artistic endeavors. In this way, she remains an integral member of my family, forever a part of my creative space. This transformation from palette to clock symbolizes not just the end of one chapter but the beginning of a new one, where she continues to inspire me every day. With her retired, I am reminded of every color we blended, every idea we manifested, and every moment of artistic expression she facilitated. It’s a tribute to our shared history and a celebration of the creative journey that continues to unfold.

My masterpiece

Who can forget that we all had time enough at last? Time enough at last to do the things we truly love, engaging in our passions without disruptions, surrounded by no one to interrupt our reverie. This painting, which I consider my masterpiece, is a deep reflection of that desire for solitude and creativity. My favorite episode of The Twilight Zone, starring the iconic Burgess Meredith, encapsulates this yearning perfectly in “Time Enough at Last.” Inspired by that narrative, I salvaged an old easel discarded in the pasture, once destined to rot away, and breathed new life into it, transforming it into a piece of art that celebrates both the episode and my interpretation of its themes. It represents a classic television moment, with its vintage design reminiscent of a retro television set, complete with rabbit ears antenna and a clock face that takes center stage. The clock face depicts that iconic scene in “Time Enough at Last,” symbolizing the hope for unending time to explore our passions. I wanted to capture the essence of the scene as realistically as I could; the easel morphed into a nostalgic black and white television screen, complete with its one cloth hi-fi stereo speaker, which is starting to fray, showing a glimpse of its inner workings. While it may not be an official masterpiece in the eyes of critics, to me, this creation is my personal testimony to the beauty of solitude and the art that arises from it—my masterpiece reflects my journey and emotions intricately woven together through each stroke of paint.

Sincerely,

David L
