With the assistance of Occupational Therapy, I plan to officially resume creating art in May 2026. I will experiment with tools to strengthen my grip, which has been affected by a health issue that prevented me from painting and drawing since last summer. It’s been about nine months since I could consistently hold a pencil or paintbrush.
I will use Occupational therapy to learn how to hold my pencils and paintbrushes better. My therapist has found a way for me to grip my art tools comfortably, so they don’t slip out of my hand like before.
I am using a new technique suggested by my therapist to restart my art journey, which allows me to draw without needing much grip strength. I intend to begin my first comeback drawing this weekend.
I understand that this technique is all about trial and error. I hope it will help me create a great portrait for my first drawing. This artwork will take many hours because it is for someone very special to me, the shining star in my heart.
With health and stamina, I will find joy in my passion again. I understand that I can no longer finish a drawing or painting in just a couple of days. I accept that I will be limited to about an hour and a half each day to complete my art.
Join me on social media to watch my time-lapse video of drawing a portrait of the late great singer, Prince.
Sincerely,
David L
