I’ve been enjoying creating new drawings, especially returning to my roots of cartoon art. I recently finished a requested cartoon of nostalgic Looney Tunes characters, so check it out on YouTube.
I’m creating a billiards-themed portrait of a friend who has recently become a professional billiards player. I’m excited to draw this one using the medium color pencil. You will be able to find this one in its entirety time lapse video on YouTube once finished.
I thought about first doing a hyperrealism portrait of my friend with a billiards theme as a big surprise for her. This of course will be drawn using the mediums of charcoal and graphite, which are both challenging and rewarding to work with. I’ve never before attempted a hyperrealism portrait due to the nature of being skilled enough to capture emotion and the narrative depth of your subject, but I find the challenge exhilarating. Furthermore, hyperrealism requires not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of light, shadow, and texture, elements that breathe life into a drawing. The process often involves painstaking detail and countless adjustments, demanding many long hours or even days of work to achieve something truly spectacular. My friend is worth all that goes into a hyperrealism drawing, as she has been such an important part of my life in the very short time we became friends, sharing her stories and photos on her games of billiards, However, I’m not quite certain I am talented enough to draw her that way, as doubt often creeps in, questioning whether I can meet the high standards that this art form entails. Yet, the thought of capturing her essence on paper motivates me to confront my fears and push my artistic boundaries.
Although she knows about her upcoming billiards-themed drawing, she doesn’t realize it will also be her portrait. She has been my biggest supporter in my return and has given me wonderful feedback on my art, along with many others who have also supported me.
I won’t tell her or anyone else about this hyperrealism drawing, including on social media. I’m not sure how long it will take, but I’ll keep everyone updated here!
If you want to see my attempt at this drawing and witness the creative process behind it, be sure to follow my YouTube channel. There, I will be sharing exclusive snippets that showcase each step, from the initial sketches to the final touches. It’s an opportunity to gain insight into my artistic journey, and I hope to inspire others along the way!
Sincerely,
