A painting on the Strigiformes bloodline (An Open Post)

Since my comeback to my passion in art, I’ve done quite a bit of drawings, especially portraits, which I’m enjoying immensely. Each stroke of the pencil brings me closer to the subjects I depict, and I find joy in capturing their unique expressions and personalities. Now, however, I’m going to switch off from picking up the pencils and instead pick up the paintbrush for my next creative endeavor. I’m excited to delve into the world of colors and texture as I embark on an acrylic painting of a carnivorous species of prey. This project will allow me to explore the intricate details of nature and the fierce elegance of these creatures, pushing my skills further and igniting my imagination. I’m looking forward to the challenges and surprises that painting will bring, as I blend hues and create a vibrant representation of life in the wild.

I’m going to be painting my subject from the Strigiformes bloodline, which are fascinating creatures that captivate many with their mysterious allure. This will be my first attempt at representing this wildlife in a painting, and I’m excited to explore the unique features that make them so compelling. I suppose I could just simply call these carnivores by their given name that everyone would identify with instantly, but I’m an artist here, and I believe that art should tell a story and evoke curiosity. Therefore, I aim to incorporate intriguing information about their nocturnal habits, specialized hunting techniques, and the symbolic meanings they hold in various cultures. My goal is not just to depict their physical form but to capture the essence of their enigmatic presence in the natural world.

I will be gifting this 12 x 24 acrylic painting to a lover of this species. Now she didn’t directly come out and tell me this; rather, I discovered her passion through the subtle hints in her conversation and the way her eyes light up when the topic arises. I found out by listening and observing because that is what the artist in me does. I’m always on the lookout and on the hunt for visions of art everywhere I turn to look, seeking inspiration in everyday moments and capturing the essence of those experiences on canvas. I see art in the colors of a sunset, the patterns of shadows cast by trees, and even in the fleeting smiles exchanged among strangers. I hear art in passing conversations, where a simple phrase can spark a whole new idea for a piece. She knows nothing of this painting and that I will be gifting it to her, and even though I might be mentioning to my friends my next art piece or even being asked about my current piece in progress, she and no one else will know it’s going to be gifted to her. The excitement of this surprise adds another layer to the creative process, transforming not only my artistic journey but also enhancing the emotional connection I have with the work as I anticipate her reaction when she finally unravels this unexpected gift.

I do have a friend at the health center that made me chuckle as I smile widely writing this entry here about her. She loves butterflies, and her passion for these delicate creatures is evident in the way she lights up whenever she encounters them. One day, she casually remarked, “Dave, just so you know, if you ever do decide to give me something, I love butterflies.” I chuckled at her playful hint, thinking about how sweet and thoughtful that request was. It felt like a delightful way of asking me for a gift, yet it carried an innocent charm that made it impossible not to enjoy. As I pondered her words, I realized how much joy I would find in creating a unique piece just for her. I knew right then that I would be gifting her a beautifully crafted drawing of a butterfly, capturing its grace and beauty in a way that reflected her own vibrant personality. This gift would not only serve as a token of our friendship but also celebrate her love for these enchanting insects.

Tonight I gifted a very close friend with a drawing of her childhood celebrity crush, singer, Jon Bon Jovi. She was extremely happy and grateful for the drawing I created for her, her eyes lighting up with joy as she recognized the familiar face. It was a moment filled with nostalgia, To ensure that the drawing truly captured the essence of the musician she adored, I did show my friend, the one who will be receiving this painting, a pic of my Bon Jovi drawing to get her feedback because I value her opinion immensely. Her insightful feedback, making it even more special. After all the effort and care put into the piece, I felt a sense of fulfillment as I finally gave my friend the drawing of Bon Jovi, knowing it would hold a special place in her heart.

If you like to see updates on my upcoming painting, be sure to follow me on social media to see the outcome of this special painting for someone so special to me. I will be sharing progress shots and insights into my creative process, allowing you to witness the journey from the initial concept to the final brushstroke. Your support and engagement mean the world to me, and I’m excited to bring you along on this artistic adventure, where every color and detail reflects the heartfelt emotions behind this piece.

Sincerely,

David L
